Exploring Reproductive Options for HD Families: Insights and Experiences from Sweden

On Monday 27th October, we hosted an online session for the Swedish HD community with an important and sensitive topic: Reproductive options for families with HD. We invited one genetic counselor and a family member who had two kids resorting to Preimplantation Genetic Testing (PGT).
The genetic counselor shared very interesting information about HD genetic features and the reproductive options available to HD families, particularly about PGT. The family member shared her experience and perspective of the PGT process.
21 people participated in this online session, and many of them were part on an HD-related event for the first time.
The first part of the session was the slide presentation from the genetic counselor. We recorded the presentation, since we know that this is always an important topic for HD families and for sure there were many people who could not attend the online session but wanted to get the information. After the recording stopped, the attendees asked a few questions to the genetic counsellor.
Then, it was time to hear the first-hand experience and impressions of an HD family member regarding PGT in Sweden.
The online session was wrapped up with questions from both professionals and family members. Some questions were asked verbally while some questions were written in the chat.
We are very grateful for the contributions of the two people who shared information and personal stories, and for everyone who joined the online session.
Reproductive options can be a hard topic to talk about due to all the sensitive questions that need to be discussed. Several people expressed gratitude at the end of the online session, and we really do believe that sharing stories and meeting others makes a difference for the HD community.
