On Saturday, March 28, the event “Voices from the Huntington Community: Needs, Rights and Responses” was held at the Lecco Hospital, a moment of dialogue that brought together families, professionals, and friends of the Huntington community. After the institutional greetings, which also included a video message from the Italian Minister for Disabilities, Claudia Villa, the national coordinator of Moving Forward in Italy, presented the results of the survey “Experiences and Needs of the Italian Huntington Community” were presented. Conducted last year, this assessment aimed to precisely capture the daily challenges and emerging needs of HD families and professionals living in Italy.
This presentation was followed by a multidisciplinary roundtable featuring neurologists, psychologists, psychiatrists, politicians and patient representatives , who engaged in discussion to identify concrete strategies to improve the care system and strengthen integrated support pathways.
The event gathered around 80 participants, including families, healthcare professionals, and supporters of the HD cause — a turnout that confirms the need for spaces dedicated to listening and collaboration.
In the afternoon, the Board of Directors of Huntington Onlus and the Moving Forward team met at the Huntington Onlus office in Lecco to define the action plan for the upcoming period: a productive and energizing moment, focused on further strengthening the work carried out in support of Huntington families.
This day marks a first step toward building a stable bridge between families and the healthcare system in the Lombardia region, and imagining and shaping a better future for the Huntington community together.
