As part of a business meeting planned between the Moving Forward Project team and the European Huntington’s Disease Association (EHA) for November, on Thursday 25th the Moving Forward team met face-to-face with members of the Balearic Huntington’s Disease Association team
Filipa Júlio, Project Manager, and Ruth Blanco, Project Coordinator in Spain, visited the new headquarters of the Balearic Association of Huntington’s Disease located in the city centre of Palma de Mallorca (Balearic Islands), and talked with Penélope Navas, the social worker and Mónica Rodríguez, the neuropsychologist of the Balearic Association. Claudia Azañedo, web designer of Moving Forward and EHA Communication Manager also attended the meeting.
It was a very interesting and productive meeting that helped us to understand the current situation and support provided to the HD patients and families in the Balearic Islands. Penélope and Mónica told us about their long experience working for the Association, their greatest achievements and the things that still need to be improved, as well as the main needs perceived in their daily work with the local HD community.
We had the opportunity to comprehensively describe the goals and action guidelines of the Moving Forward project, as well as our work plans and country-specific initiatives for Spain over the coming months, inviting Penélope and Mónica to be an active part of the dialogue that will allow us to carry out actions that meet the specific needs of the local HD community.
To get closer to and increasingly involve the other local HD associations, we will participate in the monthly Zoom meeting of the Spanish HD associations, which will take place on November 29th. There, we will have the opportunity to present the Moving Forward project for Spain and we will reinforce our willingness to interact with the regional organizations to achieve the greatest possible impact on the local HD community and promote an effective communication between the various agents that support HD families.
